Amino acid prices show first signs of stabilisation with one exception

The global amino acid market continues to face a dynamic environment this quarter, with price movements fluctuating across regions and products. While some amino acids are showing signs of price stabilisation after recent surges, others remain under pressure due to ongoing supply chain disruptions, plant maintenance, and uncertain geopolitical factors.

Prices FOB China, but also in various other regions, have stopped increasing since last week. Suppliers still have a strong desire to maintain this elevated level compared to earlier this year and even increase it further. But new demand has slowed, and buyers are contracted for the coming months and are adopting a wait-and-see attitude. Q2 and a significant portion of Q3 are contracted.

Threonine

Prices of threonine continue to increase step by step, and suppliers are all keen on increasing them further. Although more capacity is expected to come on the market later this year, that seems not to affect the current price offers. Buying intensity has decreased over the past two weeks, as a large portion of Q2 and Q3 has now been contracted, resulting in a quieter market compared to previous weeks.

DL-Methionine

Prices continue to increase as the supply chain is petrochemical-related and impacted by the current war situation involving Iran. All suppliers are reporting supply issues, with some also planning plant maintenance, so availability is currently low and not expected to improve in the near future. Some suppliers recently entered the market with offers for Q3 deliveries, but they refrained just as quickly from those offers. Prices in Europe and China have doubled, and prices in the USA are now showing a slight increase as well. Q2 is contracted, but a large portion of Q3 is still open.

Tryptophan

Not a lot of change has been seen compared to previous weeks. Prices are still elevated compared to some months ago, and the general market feel is stable to firm. But as with most other amino acids, buyers have secured their upcoming needs, and no new demand is currently seen. Q2 and a significant portion of Q3 have been contracted.

Valine

After a period of firm prices in several regions, the market now appears to have stabilised and calmed down somewhat. For nearby deliveries, the availability is still not always ideal, and suppliers indicate to be tight on supply, but later in Q2 and Q3, there seems to be some relief. But it is a thin line under current global circumstances.
