With admission officially closed, the award selection process has entered its next phase. The independent jury has started reviewing entries to select 3 finalists ahead of VIV Europe 2026 in Utrecht.
The Sustainability Impact Award 2026, initiated by Misset International, has attracted more than 100 submissions, representing a broad and diverse range of innovations from across the global feed, livestock, and animal protein value chain.
Trends in the 2026 submissions
A first review of the 2026 entries reveals clear trends shaping innovation in animal nutrition and production.
Protein transition and circularity dominate the field, as a significant share of applications focuses on alternative and circular protein sources, including insect proteins, fermentation-derived proteins, bioethanol co-products, and upcycled agri-food residues. Many solutions directly address Europe’s structural dependence on imported soy by offering regional, low-carbon protein alternatives with reduced land-use change and deforestation risk.
A second major theme is animal health as a key driver of sustainability. Numerous entries target reduced antibiotic use through probiotics, phytogenics, improved gut health, biosecurity scoring tools, and precision feeding systems.
Data and decision support also feature prominently, with LCA platforms, feed-formulation tools, and nutrient cycle assessments helping producers quantify and verify sustainability impact.
Many entries also emphasise efficiency, recognising it as one of the fastest ways to reduce climate impact.
Jury evaluation underway
The jury will assess all entries against a balanced set of criteria covering environmental impact, economic viability, animal health and social relevance. From this pool, 3 finalists will be selected, each representing a solution with proven impact and strong potential to inspire wider industry adoption.
