Hungary’s UBM Group confirms plans to invest in Kazakhstan’s feed industry

Hungary’s UBM Group is rolling out a multi-plant feed production network in Kazakhstan in partnership with local agribusinesses. The investments include major feed and premix facilities aimed at cutting feed imports and boosting regional exports.

UBM’s Kazakhstan expansion plan

UBM Group, one of Hungary’s largest crop traders and feed manufacturers, is pushing ahead with plans to build a feed production network in Kazakhstan, the country’s Agriculture Ministry announced.
UBM Group is taking concrete steps towards establishing several facilities for the production of animal feed and premixes in Kazakhstan, the Ministry reported following the meeting between Aidarbek Saparov, the Agricultural Minister, and Akos Varga, UBM Group’s chairman.

New Kostanay feed mill

UBM Group has committed to building a feed mill in Kazakhstan’s northern Kostanay region, designed with a nameplate capacity of 216,000 tonnes per year. Construction will be phased and is scheduled to start in spring 2026.
This is a joint venture with the local poultry company, Eco Broiler Ltd, which will also be the plant’s key feed customer.

Cutting reliance on feed imports

Earlier this year, the Kazakhstan Agricultural Ministry estimated that UBM Group’s investment would help reduce Kazakhstan’s dependence on imported feed. Currently, the country imports around 250,000 tonnes of feed per year to meet domestic demand.

Almaty premix plant launch

Separately, UBM Group is on track to commence operation at its new feed premix plant in the Almaty region in the second half of this year. Also, in a joint venture with a local agricultural firm, KazFoodProducts, the plant will manufacture around 48,000 tonnes of premixes per year.

These projects play a vital role in modernising the agricultural complex and developing strategic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary, Saparov emphasised in the statement.
“The project is part of UBM Group’s broader program to create a network of premix, concentrate, and compound feed production facilities in Kazakhstan, targeting both the domestic market and exports to Central Asian countries,” the Ministry said.
UBM Group praised the support Kazakhstan has provided to its projects in the country, Akosh Varga, was quoted in the statement as saying, adding that this support proved valuable.
“We intend to create modern, high-quality, and efficient facilities to ensure the sustainable development of Kazakhstan’s feed industry,” Varga said.
